Specializing in 100% Remote Vocal Instruction and Coaching, I provide an individual and holistic approach for all ages and levels, customized to inspire and engage with an emphasis on music reading skills, diction, interpretation, technique, and vocal health. I have dedicated my life to singing, and currently maintain an independent vocal studio, Atwood Music Studio, in the Sylvania area and virtually. My students have been accepted into young artists programs and institutions such as Interlochen, New England Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Miami University of Ohio, among others. Notably, my former students have gone on to perform professionally in varying genres of music including opera, song literature, jazz, and musical theater throughout the country.
Education
I hold a Master degree in Vocal Performance and a Master degree in Music Education and have spent my career teaching in both public and private schools, as well at universities, and was identified as a Highly Qualified Teacher through the Ohio Department of Education.
Teaching & Instruction
A colleague of mine once said “You will not find a better singer and teacher of vocal pedagogy than Jane. Her students at all levels will want to continue learning about music because of her knowledge and love of music.” I also share my knowledge and talents as a mentor. One of my mentees said “Jane Atwood is a teacher that doesn’t just teach her students how to use their voices correctly; she encourages souls to sing to their full potential.”
Professional Experience
My career of teaching in both public and private schools lead me to be identified as a Highly Qualified Teacher through the Ohio Department of Education. I have been invited to Vocal Workshops as a presenter, served as Music Director for multiple sacred and secular institutions, an adjudicator for multiple competitions, and have served as a guest clinician for various choirs. I am also guest faculty with the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), a conservatory for high school students, specifically working with their musical theater singers.
Performance
Some of my operatic repertoire includes La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Alma March in Little Women, Flora in La Traviata, Berta in Il Barbiere di Seville, Terentia in Captain Lovelock, Miss Todd in Old Maid and the Thief, Mother Superior in Dialogues of the Carmelites, and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
